Underfiring

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006332

The process of firing ceramic materials at a temperature or for a duration that is below the optimal range required for proper maturation. This leads to incomplete vitrification of the clay body, resulting in increased porosity and reduced strength. Underfiring also prevents glazes from fully melting and forming a durable, non-porous surface.
