Underhand

Relating to a mining method where excavation proceeds downward from a main level or drift. In underhand stoping, miners work on the top of the ore body, breaking it and allowing it to fall to a lower level for collection and transport. This method contrasts with overhand stoping, where the work is performed from below the ore block.
