Standage

The capacity of a mine or a specific area within it to hold or store materials, such as broken ore, coal, or water. This includes the volume available in sumps for water accumulation or in underground bunkers and ore passes for temporary storage of mined rock before it is hoisted to the surface. Adequate standage for water prevents flooding of working areas.
