Facework

The process of excavating ore or coal directly at the working face of a mine. This includes all activities such as drilling, blasting, cutting, and loading the broken material for transport out of the mine. The efficiency of facework operations, measured in tons per man-shift or advance per cycle, is a primary determinant of an underground mine's overall productivity and profitability.
