Stull

A timber prop or post installed horizontally or at an angle between the hanging wall and footwall of a stope to provide support. Stulls are often used in narrow, steeply dipping ore bodies to prevent rock falls and to create platforms for miners. They are a common form of temporary ground support in cut-and-fill mining.
