Stope

An underground excavation created in a mine from which ore is extracted. This void is formed by removing the ore body, leaving behind a cavity that may be open, filled with waste rock, or supported by timber or rock bolts. Stoping methods are selected based on the ore body's geometry, rock mechanics, and economic considerations.
