Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002287
Describing a ceramic object that has been subjected to high temperatures in a kiln or open fire, causing irreversible chemical and physical changes to the clay body and any applied glazes. This process hardens the material, removes moisture, and can vitrify the clay, making it durable and permanent. The temperature and duration of firing determine the final properties of the ceramic.
