Firedamp

A combustible gas, primarily methane (CH4), found in coal mines that can form explosive mixtures with air. It is released from coal seams and surrounding strata during mining operations. Concentrations of firedamp are continuously monitored, as levels exceeding 5% can lead to explosions when ignited.
