Crut
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001477
A mine roadway, drift, or tunnel that is driven through barren rock, or strata, to connect different coal seams or to access a seam from the main shaft. Unlike a heading driven within the coal seam itself, a crut does not produce coal and its excavation is purely for development and access. The term is primarily used in British coal mining terminology, where it is synonymous with a cross-measure drift.
