Bord

A working passage or roadway driven horizontally into a coal seam, following the direction of the coal's cleavage or 'face.' These excavations are part of the 'bord and pillar' mining method, where coal is extracted from the bords while pillars are left to support the roof. The width of a bord is typically between 3 and 5 meters.
