Jenkin

A narrow roadway or passage driven into a pillar of coal, typically during retreat mining operations. This excavation allows for the partial or complete extraction of the coal left behind in the pillars that were originally created to support the roof. Driving a jenkin is a method of maximizing coal recovery from a panel before abandoning the area.
