Geordie lamp

An early type of safety lamp developed by George Stephenson for use in coal mines, designed to provide illumination without igniting flammable gases. It featured a glass cylinder enclosing the flame and a chimney for air circulation, preventing direct contact between the flame and methane. This lamp represented an advancement over open flames, reducing the risk of explosions in gassy mine environments.
