Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001569
A type of safety lamp invented by Sir Humphry Davy for use in coal mines, designed to detect the presence of flammable gases like methane without igniting them. It features a flame enclosed within a fine wire gauze, which dissipates heat and prevents the flame from reaching explosive gas mixtures.
