Smoke explosion

A violent ignition of unburned fire gases that have accumulated in a confined space, often occurring when oxygen is suddenly introduced. This phenomenon is distinct from a backdraft, which involves a rapid combustion of superheated gases. Firefighters identify conditions for a smoke explosion by observing dense, turbulent smoke under pressure.
