Backdraft
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000371
A dangerous phenomenon occurring when oxygen is suddenly introduced into a confined, oxygen-depleted space containing superheated gases and unburned fuel. The sudden influx of air causes the gases to rapidly ignite, resulting in an explosive combustion. Firefighters are trained to recognize and mitigate the signs of a potential backdraft.
