Fire

To detonate an explosive charge for the purpose of breaking rock in a mine or quarry. This controlled process involves placing explosives in strategically drilled holes, connecting them to a blasting circuit, and initiating the explosion from a safe distance. The term also applies to the act of a miner being authorized to initiate the blast, as in being a 'firer' or 'shot-firer'.
