A controlled blasting technique used to create a smooth, stable rock face or excavation boundary before the main production blast. Small-diameter holes are drilled close together and loaded with light explosive charges, detonated simultaneously to form a continuous fracture plane. This method minimizes overbreak and reduces ground vibration.
