A decorative effect in ceramics characterized by variegated, streaky, or mottled colors, particularly reds, produced by specific firing conditions. This appearance results from the reduction and re-oxidation of metallic oxides, such as copper, within the kiln atmosphere. The technique creates unpredictable and unique patterns on the ceramic surface.
