Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005475

A blistering or bubbling defect on the surface of a glaze or ceramic body that occurs during the firing process. It is caused by the expansion of trapped gases, such as air, water vapor, or products of decomposition, that are unable to escape before the surface vitrifies and solidifies. This defect appears as swollen bumps or craters, compromising the aesthetic and functional quality of the finished piece.
