Groundlaying

A decorative technique in ceramics where a solid, even background color is applied to a piece before further decoration. This involves applying an adhesive medium to the ceramic surface, then dusting it with powdered color. The excess powder is brushed away, leaving a uniform layer of pigment that is then fired to set the color.
