A single mission or operational flight by one military aircraft, from takeoff to landing. The term quantifies operational activity, with each aircraft's flight counting as one sortie, regardless of the number of personnel on board or the mission's duration. For example, a formation of four aircraft flying a single mission together would be recorded as having flown four separate sorties.
