Glaze coat
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002587
A thin, transparent, or semi-transparent coating applied over a previously painted surface to add depth, color, or a specialized texture. It is a mixture of a clear medium (the glaze) and a small amount of paint or pigment, which is manipulated with tools like rags, sponges, or brushes to create decorative effects. A glaze coat is distinct from a varnish or topcoat because its primary purpose is aesthetic rather than purely protective.
