Varnish

A clear, transparent, hard protective finish or film applied to wood and other materials. It is traditionally a combination of a drying oil, a resin, and a thinner or solvent. Unlike paint, it contains no pigment and dries by evaporation of the solvent, followed by curing of the oil and resin mixture to form a durable surface.
