Blush

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000650

A milky or cloudy discoloration that appears on the surface of a newly applied paint, lacquer, or dope finish. It is caused by the rapid evaporation of solvents, which cools the surface and causes atmospheric moisture to condense and become trapped within the drying film. This phenomenon is most common when applying finishes in conditions of high humidity, and it can be prevented by using a slower-evaporating thinner or blush retarder.
