Coat

To apply a layer of a substance onto the surface of an object, known as the substrate. This process is performed for decorative, functional, or protective purposes, such as painting for appearance, galvanizing for corrosion resistance, or applying a non-stick polymer. The thickness of the applied layer, or coating, is a specified parameter, measured in units like mils or micrometers.
