Coaling tower

A tall, often concrete or steel structure containing a large bunker for storing coal, designed to gravity-feed coal into steam locomotive tenders. Locomotives would pull beneath the tower, and coal would be released through chutes directly into the tender. These towers were a prominent feature of major locomotive depots.
