Bunker

A storage compartment on a steam locomotive designed to hold coal or other solid fuel for the engine's firebox. This area is typically located at the rear of the locomotive or in the tender, providing a ready supply of fuel for the journey. The capacity of the bunker dictates the locomotive's operational range between refueling stops.
