Firebox

A combustion chamber within a steam locomotive boiler where fuel, typically coal or wood, is burned to heat water and produce steam. It is constructed with refractory brick and metal plates to withstand high temperatures. The firebox transfers heat to the surrounding water jacket, contributing to the locomotive's motive power.
