Midfeather

A thin wall or pillar of rock or coal left in place between two adjacent mine workings, such as tunnels, rooms, or ventilation shafts. It serves to provide structural support to the roof, prevent collapse, or to separate and direct air currents for ventilation control. The thickness of a midfeather is engineered based on ground conditions and stress calculations.
