Pistol pipe

A specific type of shrinkage cavity or pipe defect found in ingots, characterized by its irregular, often branched shape resembling a pistol. This defect forms due to complex solidification patterns and gas evolution within the molten metal. Pistol pipes are detrimental to material integrity and require extensive cropping to eliminate.
