Blast furnace

A large, cylindrical industrial furnace used for smelting iron ores to produce molten pig iron. Iron ore, coke, and flux are charged into the top, while hot air is blown in from the bottom. The chemical reactions reduce the iron oxides, and the molten iron and slag are tapped from the bottom of the furnace.
