Converting furnace

A refractory-lined vessel used in metallurgy to refine molten metal, typically copper matte or pig iron, by blowing air or oxygen through it. This process oxidizes impurities, which are then removed as slag or gas. The Bessemer converter is a well-known example used for steel production.
