Bessemer process

An industrial method for mass-producing steel from molten pig iron by removing impurities through oxidation. Air is blown through the molten iron, burning off carbon and other elements. This process, developed in the mid-19th century, significantly reduced the cost of steel production and enabled its widespread use.
