Montant

A vertical framing member that forms the side of a panel, such as in a door, window, or piece of cabinetry. Montants run between the horizontal rails and define the structure's vertical divisions, providing support and a surface for attaching panels or glass. In panelled door construction, the outer vertical members are called stiles, while any intermediate vertical members are correctly termed montants.
