Ledge

A narrow, horizontal surface projecting from a vertical plane, or the horizontal framing member in a ledged-and-braced door. In construction, it can refer to a shelf-like rock formation or a horizontal offset in a foundation wall. In joinery, a ledge is the horizontal batten to which vertical boards are fixed to form a simple door panel.
