Regulator

A control lever in a steam locomotive that governs the admission of steam from the boiler to the cylinders, thereby controlling the engine's power and speed. Moving the regulator opens or closes a valve, allowing more or less steam to flow. This mechanism is operated by the locomotive engineer.
