Rule

A continuous printed line, either straight or ornamental, used to divide or decorate a page layout. Rules separate columns of text, box elements, or underline headings to structure the content and guide the reader's eye. In traditional letterpress, a rule was a physical strip of type-high metal that created the impression, whereas in digital printing it is a graphic element defined by its weight, style, and color.
