An automated verification process in electronic design automation used to check if a circuit schematic or layout adheres to a predefined set of electrical design rules. The Electrical Rule Check software analyzes the netlist for logical and electrical errors such as floating inputs, shorted nets, conflicting output drivers, or improper power and ground connections. Unlike a Design Rule Check (DRC) which focuses on physical layout geometry, an ERC focuses on the electrical connectivity and integrity of the circuit design before fabrication.
