Autorouter

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000341

A software tool in electronic design automation that automatically places the copper traces connecting component pins on a printed circuit board, following design rules for clearance, trace width, layer count and manufacturing limits. It writes the routed traces back into the board layout, from which the CAD system later exports the Gerber files used for fabrication. Results usually need manual cleanup of sensitive nets such as high-speed or power connections.
