Tender engine

A type of steam locomotive that carries its fuel and water in a separate, coupled vehicle called a tender. This configuration provides greater capacity for fuel and water, giving the locomotive a longer range than a tank engine of similar size. The Great Western Railway's 'King' class is a well-known example of a powerful tender engine.
