Tendon
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005929
A high-strength steel strand, wire, or bar stretched to put compressive force into prestressed concrete, offsetting the tensile stresses that loads would otherwise cause. In pre-tensioned members the tendons are stressed before the concrete is cast and bond directly to it, while in post-tensioned members they run in ducts or greased sheaths and are stressed after the concrete hardens. Seven-wire strand rated at 1,860 MPa (270 ksi) is the standard grade.
