Pretension
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004497
A method of prestressing concrete where high-strength steel tendons are tensioned before the concrete is poured and allowed to cure. The tendons are anchored against external abutments, and once the concrete gains sufficient strength, the tension is released, transferring compressive forces to the concrete through bond. This technique is commonly used for precast concrete elements.
