Water trough
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006537
A long, shallow tank positioned between the rails of a railway track, allowing steam locomotives to replenish their water supply while in motion. A scoop lowered from the tender dips into the trough, forcing water up into the tender's tank. This system eliminated the need for frequent stops at water towers on long journeys.
