Tender
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005926
A specialized rail vehicle permanently coupled behind a steam locomotive to carry its fuel and water. The tender's capacity for coal or oil and thousands of gallons of water determines the locomotive's operational range between refueling stops. Tenders are distinct from the water tanks and fuel bunkers carried on the locomotive itself, as seen in a tank engine design.
