Interlocking tower
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003053
A structure housing the levers, switches, and displays used to control an interlocking system on a railway. Operators within the tower, also called a signal box, set routes for trains by manipulating controls that are mechanically or electrically connected to trackside signals and points. Modern systems often replace physical towers with centralized traffic control centers that manage vast territories remotely.
