Locking frame

A mechanical apparatus in a signal box that connects levers controlling signals and switches, preventing conflicting movements. It consists of a grid of interlocking bars and tappets that physically restrict a signal operator from setting a hazardous route. The Saxby and Farmer design became a widespread standard for these mechanical interlocking systems.
