Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002395
The raised ring or base at the bottom of a ceramic vessel, designed to lift the main body of the piece off the surface it rests upon. This feature provides stability, protects the glazed bottom from scratching, and can prevent heat transfer to a table. Footrims are often trimmed or carved into the clay when the piece is leather-hard.
