Rootstock

The lower part of a grafted plant, consisting of the root system and sometimes a portion of the stem, onto which a scion is joined. It provides the root system, anchorage, and often influences the scion's growth, disease resistance, and fruit production. Rootstocks are selected for traits such as vigor, soil adaptability, and pest tolerance.
