Splice grafting
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005536
A method of plant propagation where a scion (a shoot or bud) is joined to a rootstock by making matching diagonal cuts on both pieces and fitting them together. This technique creates a strong union by maximizing the contact between the cambium layers of the two plant parts, allowing for the successful transfer of water and nutrients. It is commonly used for woody plants and fruit trees to combine desirable traits from different varieties.
