A horticultural technique where tissues from two plants are joined so that they grow together as a single plant. The upper part, called the scion, is attached to the root system of another plant, called the rootstock. Grafting is used to combine desirable traits, such as disease resistance from the rootstock and fruit quality from the scion, in fruit trees and ornamental plants.
